More About Jonathan's Circle

Jonathan’s Circle®, organized in 2014, launched the first of the StoneSong retreats two years later in collaboration with David Townsend and his queer men’s spirituality practice, Anchorhold. Five times since then, before and again after the pandemic shutdown, men have gathered at Stonesong in the foothills of the Appalachians to plumb greater depths of the twin streams of erotic expression and spiritual meaning. The 2024 retreat will broaden and deepen the experience of a band of men stretching to embrace the wholeness of body and spirit that we already possess, yet sometimes find limited means to express.

When executive director Frank Dunn began organizing Jonathan’s Circle, he set out to create safe spaces where men of all backgrounds, traditions, and life experiences could freely integrate erotic energy and spiritual life, however those two powerful forces might express themselves in their lives. He created Jonathan’s Circle out of his belief that these two dynamics spring from a common origin and then take unique shape in each individual life. Today Jonathan’s Circle includes over 500 men from around the world in its online community, its meet-up groups totalling over 200 members, its regional retreats and weekend events, small-group Brotherhood Circles, and its monthly online conversations, Jonathan’s Circle Live.
